Diagnostic Framework
Before you can fix the right thing, you have to find it — the Diagnostic Framework takes you from the presenting pain or desire to the intervention that will actually address it.
Aim
This tool assists those attempting to improve organizational performance by answering the question, "Where do I start?" It will provide a way to approach organizational issues and determine what type of intervention will best address the need.
Results
- Understanding of the root cause of the need for change.
- Identification of gaps between current and desired results.
- Clarity on environmental factors influencing leaders (eg industry, market or consumer trends).
- Pinpointed systemic and/or non-systemic challenges.
How to use it
- Start with the presenting pain or desire, then work out whether the challenge is systemic (organization-level) or non-systemic (group or individual).
- Use the Diagnosis Insight Data Capture Template to understand and define, at a high level, the challenges your organization is experiencing.
- Work through the diagnostic questions with yourself and others to pressure-test each category.
- Let what you find point to the intervention: strategy clarification, macro design or micro design for systemic issues; task, process, ability, motivation or style for non-systemic ones.
